Splash Pages

  • Updated

Within Onboarding, splash pages allow you to manage every step of your visitor WiFi experience, from login methods and beautifully designed splash pages, to branding, promotions and advertising that encourage spend and help drive revenue. You can create splash pages for the following access journeys:

  • Offline - This page is always required as part of the onboarding to WiFi. These pages appear before the user logs in and authenticates the user onto the network. The page can display limited content, but it cannot include external links/resources as the user is still in the Walled Garden.

  • Online - Appears after the user successfully logs in to the WiFi, these pages are optional as an access journey may redirect the user to a URL instead. As these pages appears after the login you can display external links and media such as promotions and offers, upcoming event information and links to your website.
  • Out of hours - A special type of offline page to prevent logins outside of configured business hours. Similar to an offline splash page the user is in the Walled Garden and therefore you can only display limited content.

Splash pages are built using either a standard type where you can use a simple form to choose which elements to include or the HTML type which gives you access to custom HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Once you have created your splash pages you can then create the customer access journey.

Language settings

Splash pages have elements that are applied on a per template basis. Any text boxes on the splash page can have a customized language version.

When logging into Wi-Fi, default text on the splash page will be determined by the user's browser language settings. Purple translates all fixed elements on a standard (template) splash page. Custom text you might have set on the page will not update with the browser's language settings.

There is the option to set splash page messaging to a preferred language, in order to cater to a multilingual user base. This can be updated by creating a new language version in your access journey.

If you are using an online splash page as your redirect you may need to create a new translated version of this so the appropriate language displays. This would be carried out the same way, as detailed here.

Data Collected

Purple collects data about the client's device as soon as the client loads a splash page. This data is
passed by the network controller as URL parameters to the splash page or is taken from HTTP
headers passed by the browser.

For web authentication:

At the splash page, the end user is invited to enter data to authenticate to the WiFi. The exact data collected differs according to the configuration defined by the customer, and at a minimum the data collected may be no more than an acceptance of the terms and conditions of joining the WiFi.
