The Basics
Shield is our next generation DNS offering. It allows you to protect your network by blocking content.
Accessing Shield
If you have a new license, you will find Shield in the application switcher menu.
If you had an existing ‘Protect’ License, you’ve been automatically upgraded to Shield and will see a banner on the content filtering tab directing you to Shield. (You can also use the application switcher, to navigate to shield in the future. This is the preferred method)
Content Blocking
Content can be blocked or allowed at a ‘category’ level - e.g. ‘Gambling’ or a domain level, e.g. ‘bad-actor.com’. (Setting Domain level blocks or allows, overrides category settings for that domain) - See Adding a policy guide for more details on how to set things up for your needs.
To deploy Shield on your network, you need to add the IP addresses of your hardware for each venue you wish to protect. See the Venue management guide for more information.
Dashboard
Your Dashboard shows usage statistics for the last 7 days. When you first set-up your service, your stats will be zero, and will populate automatically over the next week.
Side Menu
The side menu is your primary navigation.
Schedules are where you can set-up different filters to be applied at different times (this is not required, by default, a policy applied on it’s own applies to the venue at all times (24/7)
Venues is where you set-up your venues and apply policies or schedules. | |
At the bottom of the sidebar is displayed DNS Servers: The 2 IP addresses listed are the DNS servers you need to set on your hardware to have Shield active. |
Check Domain
Search for a domain name. It will tell you if it is a known domain and which categories (if any) it falls under. It will also tell you which policies it is in and if it is blocked or allowed by that policy.
