Media is displayed prominently within our RTLS solutions. With destination media, we've aimed to improve the user experience and increase user engagement by providing the ability to include high-quality visual accompaniments for each location.
The update includes the option to insert images in tooltips and galleries, and comes with an updated media user interface (UI) for admin users.
End User Functionality
An image displays in the tooltip when hovering over the location:
Clicking on the tooltip image brings up the full gallery where images can be scrolled through. Up to 8 images can be included per location:
The title of each image displays in the top left-hand corner, with the date of upload shown just underneath.
Images adapt for both web and mobile. Where multiple images are present, they can be quickly scrolled through from the bottom of the screen:
The visuals can also help draw the eyeline and attention to promotional offers:
Uploading, editing and deleting images
Images can be uploaded, edited and deleted by navigating to the ‘Location maps’ sidebar option, then by selecting a location. Next, select the ‘Media library’ tab:
Upload an image by clicking the blue ‘Upload’ button on the right-hand side of the screen:
Once you’ve selected the media type as ‘Image’ from the dropdown menu, you can drag the file onto your browser or navigate through your files until you find the desired image. Select ‘Upload’ again and it will display in your media library:
By selecting an image, you can change the name or swap out the image by pressing the ‘Change media’ button:
You can also delete the image. If you select to delete the image, you will see a final confirmation pop-up. Once delete is selected on this screen, the media item will be permanently deleted and removed from all buildings and floor plans that use it.
Adding an image to a location
From the ‘Buildings & areas’ tab within your desired location, select the building or area you want the image to be added to.
Next, select the destination pin you want to add the image to; either by selecting it on the map, or by clicking it from the ‘Content’ section of the left-hand sidebar:
Options will display in a right-hand sidebar menu. Scroll down in the default ‘About’ tab and click to add media:
Select the image you want to include, then click ‘Add’. Up to 8 images can be added per destination.
Clicking the three dots above each image allows you to quickly delete the image, while selecting the ‘pin’ icon underneath an image will make it the default image that displays first to users.
Once you’ve upload multiple images, they can be reordered by dragging and dropping them into the desired order.
Select ‘Save’ at the bottom-right of the screen once complete.
Remember to also select ‘Save’ in the top-right of the screen before exiting the platform.
File formats including PNG, JPEG, and JPG are supported. There is a size limit of 10MB per image.
Analytics will be available for how many people click on the images and use the gallery view. This will inform whether, for example, destinations with media have a higher click rate.
Add an icon to a location
Icons can be uploaded, edited and deleted by navigating to the ‘Location maps’ sidebar option, then by selecting a location. Next, select the ‘Media library’ tab, then the 'Icons' button.
The file format for icons needs to be SVG and there is a maximum size limit of 10MB per icon.
The icons tab within the media library has been updated to match the functionality of the images tab, by making it more recognizable when an icon is being selected and allowing them to be easily renamed or swapped out for another icon.
Hovering over an item will clearly change the icon’s shade:
Clicking on the icon will provide the option to rename it. You can also swap out the icon by pressing the ‘Change media’ button.
To add an icon to your selected location, from the ‘Buildings & areas’ tab within your desired location, select the building or area you want the icon to be added to.
Next, select the destination pin you want to add the image to; either by selecting it on the map, or by clicking it from the ‘Content’ section of the left-hand sidebar:
Options will display in a right-hand sidebar menu. Scroll down in the default ‘About’ tab and click on the pin icon:
Click the icon you want to use, then press ‘Select’.
Remember to select ‘Save’ in the top-right of the screen before exiting the platform.
Add a Map Vector
The vectors tab has undergone similar updates to images and icons, with the ability to change the name or media.
Vectors can be uploaded, edited and deleted by navigating to the ‘Location maps’ sidebar option, then by selecting a location. Next, select the ‘Media library’ tab, then 'Map vectors'.
The file format needs to be SVG and has a maximum size limit of 10MB per map vector.
Important: If a map vector is deleted, the admin user cannot undo this. Users are urged to take care when making any changes to map vectors.
By selecting a map vector, you can change the name or swap out the image by pressing the ‘Change media’ button. After selecting another image and pressing ‘Save’, the original image will be deleted and be unrecoverable.
Media Library UI
The media library has been updated to include a photo-style album format. Search functionality is still present in the top-right corner to allow media to be more easily found:
