Welcome to Purple Support

Social Media Authentication

  • Updated

Social media authentication enables visitors to connect to your Guest WiFi using their social media credentials, ensuring a quick and simple login. Our captive portal can leverage visitor data so you can understand who your visitors are by building detailed profiles, helping you drive meaningful marketing campaigns that increase engagement.

To support social media authentication, domains must be configured under the walled garden of your AP or controller. See our Walled Garden Domain Whitelist for the list of domains you need to add.

Supported login methods include Facebook, X, Google, Apple and LinkedIn. Other custom development options are available, such as OneClick. For more information on these options, please contact your Purple account manager.

To use Facebook, X, LinkedIn or Google Authentication login methods you must set these up in ManagementVenuesAccess Methods.

Login methods then actively need to be added to your offline splash pages using either the standard splash page builder or custom HTML.

SAML/Staff WiFi can be set on the Splash Page however, you'll first need to set up a Connector - please see our guide to set up here.

AppleID does not require additional configurating and can be enabled on the Splash Page.

Google Authentication is not available on Apple devices as the iOS WiFi login window is not supported by Google. End users won't see the Google login option when using an iOS device.

The following table shows the information the portal collects when a user logs in via social media, if the user shares that information:

The Follow On Form is available to collect any details that might be required and if you have a specific detail that you might need to understand, you might also add a Custom Form option.

SMS authentication also collects the mobile number, it is an option within the Access Journey that you can use to validate a provided Mobile phone login. A Twilio connector must be set up in order to use the SMS functionality.

The data shared varies with each platform. Learn more about user data being collected here.
